DIY Chrysanthemum Mirror (made from plastic spoons)

One word to describe this project= fun! I have been wanting to do this mirror for a while, and as soon as my roommate expressed interest in making it I jumped right on it! This tutorial is really helpful and easy to follow. The instruction are very informative and clear, but there are some pointers I can give. To start I would use a ruler to position your mirror on your cake board. Also, have someone help you break the spoons, it takes a while to get through all the spoons. When you stat breaking the spoons it begins to hurt your hand. So grab a towel and break it under it. I love the way it turned out, this DIY is a great addition to any home decor!

DIY Paper Towel Roll Wall Flower

Image

I saw a picture of this finished project on Pinterest, but unfortunately I couldn’t find a tutorial attached. So I’ve decided that I’m going to make one myself and link it to my Pinterest page! What I loved most about this craft the most is that it doesn’t even cost $5 to make and you will have people asking where you bought it!

Supplies:

  • Paper towel rolls/ toilet paper rolls
  • Hot glue gun (& extra hot glue sticks)
  • Sissors

Each paper towel roll makes about 20 pieces and each toilet paper roll makes about 8 pieces. I used two paper towel rolls and four toilet paper rolls (70- 80 strips), which made a flower 1.5 ft wide and tall.

Take the paper towel roll and fold in in half to it is easier to cut and you get the oval shapes out of your strips. Cut the rolls in to strips a half an inch wide– they do not have to be the exact same width.

Next, start with a center of 6 strips and secure that shape with hot glue.

Once you have your center, take a strip, put a dab of hot glue on each side of the tip and just start filling in the spaces. When you’re filling in, periodically look at your flower straight on ( the angle you would see if it was hanging up) and make sure you are staying an even amount around the center. This keeps your final product from looking lop-sided.

Once you have finished you should have a flower that looks something like this. You can keep it the color it is or spray paint it the color of your choice. For a metal look I recommenced using Krylon’s ‘Looking Glass” spray paint (Walmart).
